We were approached by O-Street to collaborate on the launch of the new RBS notes. The first launch was in 2016 of the new £5 RBS note, featuring Nan Shepherd, mackerel and a hidden midge. The second collaboration was in 2017 with the launch of the new £10 RBS note, featuring Mary Somerville, 2 Scottish otters and, hiding on the back, the ever-present midge.
We were also commissioned to create a bespoke website alongside the £10 note launch, which conformed to the RBS brand guidelines. We also programmed the VR-capability.

Based on O-Street’s note designs, we crafted the animations to bring the different elements to life. For the £5 note, the animations could be accessed via the Augmented Reality app, Blippar. When placed over the note, hot-spots appeared, prompting the viewer to interact with the different elements – some provided information while others played animations.
For the £10 note, the animations could be accessed via our dedicated, bespoke website, which also worked as a VR experience if accessing via a mobile device. The viewer could follow the otters swimming or the swarm of midges, or feel like they’re standing on the beach at Burntisland or in the cosmos.
